A Little Something Extra: 10 Exquisite Accent Tables

Sometimes a room just needs a little extra something. The colors are all there, the main pieces are all in place, the tone is almost what you were hoping for, but you just need a little more formality, or character, or balance; that’s where today’s roundup of accent tables comes into play. Foreside, Ital Modern and Stray Dog Designs all offer a bright pop of color, while Anti Pulli, Tavola and Shine by SHO brighten things up — in some cases, literally — with their modern side tables. If you’re in the market for that final touch to make it all complete (and give you a place to rest that magazine you want to finish later), this little collection likely has just the thing — or something like it.

10 Surprisingly Cool Pieces of Wicker Furniture

Generally speaking, wicker furniture isn’t exactly stunning. We have to admit, though, that since it can be made from environmentally-conscious, sustainable materials, we’re willing to give it a second chance, and that’s why we took a spin around the web today to see what we could find. In all honesty, it was a pleasant surprise to run across pieces like the unexpected black and white patio set from Borek and the oddly charming (if Ramen-noodle-ish) Pope Chair from PIE Studio founder Bannavis Andrew Sribyatta. Really, when you get down to it, almost everyone deserves a second chance at some point, and today seems like as good a time as any, given this admittedly eye-catching and eco-friendly roundup.

Innovative Pieces of Solid Wood Furniture

At some point in the mile-a-minute blip culture in which we live, designers went reaching far and wide for new materials, new ideas and new ways to interpret every piece of furniture in, on and around which we conduct our lives. And then, thankfully, it simply occurred to someone: what ever happened to wood? Today’s roundup of solid wood furniture presents an innovative array of current, timeless, and in some cases, futuristic pieces created from a material as old as the earth itself. In source material running the gamut from freshly-cut, highly sustainable bamboo to exotic reclaimed woods with storied pasts, each piece is as arresting as the next. Put in basic terms, something that predates humanity can never really go out of style.

Stunning Bookcase Designs

Reading is fundamental — any educator will tell you so. And while the bookworms among us would stack hundreds of books on the floor if we had to in order to keep them around, it’s obviously a bit more civilized to keep them organized in a bookcase. Today’s roundup of stunning bookcase designs ranges from the uber-organized filing system of the USA Bookcase by Ron Arad to the hippie-chic hanging net comprising the Bookwave by Ilio. There’s something for everyone in this particular series — quirky iconographic pieces from Estudio Breder and Lau Design, a readable reminder case for the forgetful reader, and even a movable dolly case for the literati on the go. And so the story goes: once upon a time, we fell in love with ten amazing bookcase designs and lived happily ever after.

Amazing Floor Lamps to Light Up Your Life

There’s but one simple truth when it comes to looking your best when lounging around at home: overhead lights should be outlawed. Ask any self-respecting woman how she feels about having dinner in someone’s home with a harsh ceiling light shining down from above, and she’ll shake her head and sigh. Gone are the days of the dome light; that’s why we’re coming to the rescue with today’s roundup of floor lamps. These snappy little solutions provide just as many lumens — if not more — than their prehistoric counterparts, but they cast light upward and/or outward instead of down, sparing everyone underneath from ominous shadows and under-eye circles. Bring one of these home with you, and congratulations — you and everyone in your after-hours company just got considerably more attractive.
