4th Annual Southern Arms and Crafts Show

The Southern Longrifle Association, LLC would like to announce and invite all to the 4th Annual Southern Arms & Crafts Show on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday,  April 3, 2011 in Williamsburg, Virginia. The show will be held at the Holiday Inn – Patriot on Richmond Road just a little ways from Colonial Williamsburg. This is a high quality show open only to traditional muzzleloading firearms, accouterments and related crafts. There will be a good cross section of original and contemporary longrifles, and accouterments including a special display of rarely seen, top quality Virginia longrifles.  

These rifles include:

1)  F. Klette rifle (Shumway, Rifles of Colonial America, Vol. II #123, p. 534 & Whisker, Gunsmiths of VA, 2nd Ed., p. 178)

2)  Early Rockbridge Co., VA or Moore/Randolph Co., NC rifle (Shumway, Rifles of Colonial America, Vol. II #133, p. 570 & Ivey, NC Schools of Longrifles, #29, p. 52)

3) John Haymaker rifle, Winchester, VA (Whisker, Gunsmiths of VA, 2nd Ed., p. 176)

4) J. Lauck, silver-mounted boy’s rifle, Winchester, VA

5) Alex McGilvray rifle (early, while working w/ Geo. Peterman), Botetourt Co., VA

There will also be at least one major vendor of gun building parts and supplies. Everyone who has attended in the past has had a great time.   So, come and share your treasures in a comfortable and friendly environment just a few minutes from Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Bush Gardens, and many outlet malls and specialty shops.  

Tables are available at $60 each including two admission tickets.   General admission is $5, which is good for both days.   Special show room rates are available at the Holiday Inn – Patriot of $69/night if you call 800 446-6001 and ask for the  Southern Longrifle Association rate.   This rate is good before and after the show dates  so you can plan a long weekend getaway for the entire family.

The show hours are 9-5 on Saturday and 9-3 on Sunday.   There is complimentary coffee, tea and water for all.

Jim Chambers Flintlock Classes in 2011

The Kit Assembly Class will be taught by Jim Chambers, Jim Klein and Bob Ray with a few other special guests helping out along the way.  This class will cover assembling a functional Chambers or Klein rifle kit ready to take home for final sanding and finishing.

The carving class will be taught by Jim Chambers along Jim Klein and other known carvers.  The Carving instructors will help you to develop and master the techniques used to do both relief and incised carvings. 

The classes are held at the Chambers shop located in Candler, NC just outside of Asheville, NC and run for 5 days from 8am-5pm.  Lunch, plus two evening cookouts, are provided by Barbie and Karen.  The cost for either class is $500, plus your kit or practice carving stock, and the meals.  Each class will hold 12 students, with spaces being filled on a first come first serve basis.

33rd Tennessee Kentucky Rifle Show

Tennessee Kentucky Rifle Show, April 22-23, 2011

   

The 33rd annual Tennessee Kentucky Rifle Show will be held Friday and Saturday April 22-23, 2011, at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, Tennessee (just north of Knoxville).  KRA and CLA members and interested visitors to this blog are welcome and are hereby invited.  The show features antique longrifles and related accouterments, particularly those from the South.  Handcrafted contemporary longrifles and accouterments are welcome as well. 

The show is limited by its location to 50 tables, but the setting at the Museum in this beautiful Tennessee valley is worth the limitation on size.  

This is an opportunity to see some of the great Southern rifles, antique and contemporary. Tables are $75.00, which includes one ticket to the Friday night BBQ dinner (pork and chicken and all the trimmings). For non-exhibitors, admission with BBQ dinner is $20.00; admission only, without dinner, is $10.00.

Lake Cumberland CLA - Mini Show

The Lake Cumberland Mini CLA Show is set for February 4 - 6, 2011 at the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park in Jamestown, Kentucky. The show set up starts at 10:00 am on Friday, February 4th. The show closes at noon on Sunday, February 6th. The show opens at 8:00 am on Saturday and Sunday and is open until 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday nights.

The guest speak this year is Mr. Bill Ivey, collector and author of "North Carolina Schools of Long Rifles - 1765-1865". Bill's collection will be on display and he will speak at 4:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.

Larry Spisak and Morgan's Glade will provide music throughout the weekend.
