Kutztown-Area ‘Folk Art’ Rifle by Eric Kettenburg

Very reminiscent of the Rockland-Kutztown area as well as the Angstadts, this rifle is not copied from any specific original but is quite representative of a ‘type’ which was regionally common ca. 1790s through the early decades of the 19th century.  It can be viewed as being extremely ‘hasty’ and primitive in design and style.

This rifle has been aged to reflect a good deal of usage, though not to the level of an outright ‘fake.’

Transitional Longrifle by Eric Kettenburg

.54 caliber, Berks County, flintlock, longrifle. 38" Colerain swamped barrel, nicely tuned lock. All furniture hand-made by Eric. A good shooter and a joy to carry in the woods, this rifle features moderate distressing, making it a fine example of a firearm used on the frontier. Well executed moulding around the lock flats, tang, ramrod chanel and lower buttstock--raised carving behind the cheek piece. Sliding wood patchbox has Exodus 15:2 engraved on it ("the Lord is my strength and is now become my salvation.") The breech end of the barrel has the words (in small lettering) Jehoval Jireh on it ("The Lord Provides".) The L.O.P. is 13 and 3/4.
