Striking red color and unusual design made up of disconnected elements make this strap very distinctive. The red is natural dyed using madder root which was the most common red in the world until the adoption of aniline dyes in the middle part of the 1800’s. The beads are woven in on the yarn like the originals and the yarn used is quite fine by today standards. Many period pieces were done with even finer yarns. This design was taken from an original strap on a powderhorn shown in Barcroft-Hunts’s “Warriors”.
