Epiphany

Yesterday I traveled to Marian Valley for the great feast of the epiphany.
It was a full blown Solemn Mass. We had 6 servers and I was the MC.

Here are the opening rites. Father wore a nice roman chasuble and final tested out his new monastic amice. He thinks the amice looks too sloppy, but I quite like it.

Here is the Gospel reading, notice that there is a portrait on the ambo. This is a painting of St Paul the first hermit, he is the patron of the order.

Here is the cencing of the altar. The monks set up a nice nativity sence in front of the altar, it's nice and small, not detracting from the altar.

Here is the cencing of Father. The Saturday before I was also at Marian Valley and we had a bit of trouble with the thirble, my favorite line of Father's was "It's buggered, Fix It".

After coummunion we had the blessing of the chalk and a special hymn to st Paul the first hermit in Latin (it's part of a novena for the feast of St Paul the first hermit). I'll be sure to post a copy of it in the near future and have summa theolgica translate it into English.




After mass we had a nice meal with the large contingent of the alianice of the holy family and there religious brothers (the O.A.T.H).

Fr Mark Withoos

Fr Mark Withoos is a priest from the archdioesces of Melboure and is currently studying in England. He recently visited Brisbane and help Fr Jordan with the latin mass community.
On his last day in Brisbane he celebrated the mass of Paul the 6th (no tridentine mass due to not having an indult) at St Luke's. I had the great privilage of serving for him. Here are a few photo's of the mass.

Here I am reading the reading for the mass. I only was told about a mintue before mass that I was to do the readings , so I was a bit unprepared.

The unveiling of the chalice. Sorry about the blue tint of it. Also notice the burse, I love burses they just add that extra shape to the chalice and not to mention take good care of the corporal.

We were going to use the high altar for an ad orientam mass, but Father arrived abit to late for us to move the "cammer table".

P.S. I only call somthing an altar only if it is dignifyed and either is a permanet altar or has aleast and altarstone.

Latin Pun

Roman has asked me to post to the blog a short joke / story I was told by an old friend:

I think it was Arch. (later Card.) Freeman who was lecturing at the Gregorian Uni. years ago. His nickname among the students was "Bull". In one of his lectures he faced up to and claimed to
have solved a problem which had left St Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas stumped. The saying went around "Augustinus nescit; Thomas nescit; sed Bull scit". I hope that doesn't scandalise you, but, unlike you, I am a sinner.

Sarum Albs

Now for all my faithfully readers to do something for me, I have a favor to ask of my readers.

To my knowledge this alb and amice in these photos (see below) is the alb that was used in the Sarum rite. I have taken quite a fancy to it and was wondering if any of my readers might know

were I might be able to acquire one for myself. I really like the red broach on it, a well as the amice.

Italian Pligramage

Since my supply of photos of recent events has dried up, I thought I'd show a few photos of the Italian Pilgrimage to Marian Valley in honor of the feast day of St Padre Pio.

Here is the entrance procession. The boat boy there is none other then Br Bruno. Br Bruno is from the main Pauline monastery in N.S.W, he then was on retreat before his momentous occasion of his solemn profession. Please everyone keep Brother in your prayers

Here is the censing of the Gospel. I really dislike the “”hippy” fad of wearing the stole on the outside, especially with such an awesome traditional chasuble

Here we are during the Sanctus. Unfortunately the two torches that Marian Valley has were only rediscovered recently (much to the delight of the Fr Prior). So until only New Year's we had to resort to using the Acolyte candles (which you can't actually seen in this Photo).
Here is the procession out. You might notice that for the exit procession we used the two Acolyte candles. We should have had them for the procession in, but because we didn't get any Italian servers we had to juggle the jobs around (I hate juggling).

Pauline Monks

I wrote in one of my previous posts about Marian Valley. Well thankfully now I can elaborate on the matter.The shine of our Lady that is called Marian Valley is run by the Pauline Fathers and Brothers or the order of St Paul the first hermit. They are a semi-completive order. The order used to be a large and influential order of the church (rivaling such orders as the Franciscans), until they were forced out of Hungary by the advancing Turks. They then moved there main “holdings” to my home country Poland. That’s when they fell from over 2000 monks to a bit over 400 today. There apostolates include Shrines, Parishes, spiritual direction and retreats.

Marian Valley is staffed by three monks, Fr Prior Columba Mc-Beth Green (Right), Fr Gabriel (left) and Br Luke (centre). Also they are constantly supported by a team of volunteers. There website is also worth a look: http://www.marianvalley.org/.

These Monks are loyal sons of the Church. There preaching, spiritual direction and Mass is 100% in accordance with the Holy Father and the Catholic Church. Marian Valley is one of Australia's cherished centers of Marian devotion. If you’re looking for a quiet and peace, as well as spiritual uplifting shrine to have a retreat or even that Sunday mass Marian Valley is the Shrine to go to.

I'm sorry about the lack of posts so far. It's been a bit busy now for me with all the masses I had to serve. Also blogger gave me afew problems. I promise that you'll all get a few more posts now, that is if blogger doesn't give me problems.
