This is the terrifying moment when a male grizzly bear charged a petrified group of sightseers in the Katmai National park in Alaska. The 10 tourists were hoping to view the bears hunting for salmon but suddenly they became the hunted as the the 40-stone predator charged them without warning. The men and women had little choice but to sit perfectly still while the lone bear came within inches of them. At one stage it even sniffed the hoodie of one member. Their guide advised the party not to jump up or run away as that would have prompted the fearsome creature to go on the attack and bring the trip to a grisly end. Instead it circled the group several times before wandering off when it lost interest.

Paint Disturbed by Sound
German photographer Martin Klimas photographs sound using paint. He starts by putting different colored paint on top of some translucent material, underneath which is a speaker. When he cranks up the volume, the carefully selected mixtures of paint explode from the surface shooting into the air, intermixing to creating beautiful patterns. Klimas photographs these motion and each photo becomes an analogue representation of the music.
Martin Klimas has captured portrait of many different songs —from Miles Davis to Kraftwerk. He spent six months and about 1,000 shots to get the required results and also spent 18.5 gallons of paint and two blown speakers.
Klimas rose to prominence in the art world four years ago for a series of photos that captured porcelain figurines just as they shattered. In addition to the obvious debt owed to abstract expressionism, Klimas says his major influence was Hans Jenny, the father of cymatics, the study of wave phenomena. The resulting images are Klimas’s attempt to answer the question “What does music look like?”

The Living Wall
Russian street artist Nikita Nomerz makes derelict structures come alive by adding eyes and facial features. Nikita Nomerz's work ranges from water towers painted to look like they're laughing to dilapidated buildings with broken window frames for eyes. Nomerz, from the western Russian city of Nizhniy Novgorod, travels around various cities in his homeland to carry out his art.
He says: "I started in school with classic hip hop graffiti but became more interested in street art and began all sorts of experiments. Now basically I like to play with space and objects. I am inspired by the place itself. I love watching the city and finding an interesting point. Usually I do not spend so much time to create one work, sometimes less than an hour. But it all depends on the size of the object and my ideas.

Trend - Red: Style savvy stars tend to avoid red because it's hard to pull off a colour that clashes with the carpet you're on. But this year, these fearless females went all out. Michelle Williams wore Louis Vuitton, Emma Stone chose Giambattista Valli, Natalie Portman wore vintage Dior, Livia Giuggioli (Mrs Colin Firth) wore bespoke Valentino, Janet McTeer also wore red, with a plunging neckline.

Modern Ceiling Fans
It’s a simple fact: “ceiling fan” and “chic modern design” aren’t typically uttered in the same sentence. Curiously, though, we’ve managed to round up a decent collection of up-to-the-moment, truly modern ceiling fans worth at least a cursory glance. Gone, apparently, are the days of oversized fake palm fronds and overwrought, multi-bulb lamps emerging from tacky, ornately affected hunks of wood and metal. Today’s curation in particular is actually very aerodynamic, with a streamlined jet propeller aesthetic applied to most of the elements we’ve pulled together. We even uncovered a feat of engineering in the case of the two-blade offering from breakout company Fanimation; it doesn’t even look like it should work, it’s so simple and symmetrical. And that’s the charm of today’s roundup: there’s nothing fussy — only cool, in more ways than one.

Germany Goes Crazy at Rose Monday
Hundreds of thousands of carnival revellers took to the streets of Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz on Monday for the traditional Rose Monday parades famed for their satirical procession floats.
This year, the resignation of Christian Wulff as president on Friday featured prominently in the floats rolling through the streets, but the show was stolen by a float design in Düsseldorf illustrating the close Franco-German relationship, with a deliriously amorous Nicolas Sarkozy nestling in the ample cleavage of the noticeably larger German chancellor. The euro crisis was a another theme, with Merkel being portrayed as Europe's savior.
Rosenmontag, also known as Rose Monday, is one of the highlights of the German Carnival. Rose Monday is celebrated on the Monday before Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of Lent in Germany, East Belgium, Austria and Switzerland. The carnival is most extravagant in areas of the Rhineland, including Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Aachen and Mainz.

A Little Something Extra: 10 Exquisite Accent Tables
Sometimes a room just needs a little extra something. The colors are all there, the main pieces are all in place, the tone is almost what you were hoping for, but you just need a little more formality, or character, or balance; that’s where today’s roundup of accent tables comes into play. Foreside, Ital Modern and Stray Dog Designs all offer a bright pop of color, while Anti Pulli, Tavola and Shine by SHO brighten things up — in some cases, literally — with their modern side tables. If you’re in the market for that final touch to make it all complete (and give you a place to rest that magazine you want to finish later), this little collection likely has just the thing — or something like it.

The “Plak” Residence
This interesting family home “Plak” in Vienna was designed by Austrian architecture studio Propeller Z. It has gardens and terraces that keep the inhabitants strongly connected to nature. “The entry on the ground floor welcomes family and guest with a sculptural staircase leading up to one of the bedrooms and the office space. A mirrored wall reflects the elegant wooden shapes of the staircase and everyone can enjoy its unusual geometric shape while heading upstairs. The first floor home office is flooded with natural light and encapsulated in a part glass part bookshelf division. The upper floors include living and entertaining zones and the modern kitchen – all of these benefit from natural light and splendid views. Terraces with sliding glass doors open up the interiors to the outdoor space, while dark-framed windows capture views of the neighborhood and the passing of seasons.” Take a look!
